I don’t know about you, but the holiday season is prime time for my crafting obsession. There’s something about turning on the Grinch Stole Christmas movie (the original animated one is my favorite!) and sitting down with some hot cocoa that makes crafting even more fun. Last year, I got really into making DIY Grinch ornaments for my own tree and a few friends, and wow, they were such a hit! Whether you’re super crafty or just starting out, these ornaments are an easy way to add a little Grinchy charm to your holiday decorations.
Grinch Feather Boa Ornament
Start with a clear plastic or glass ornament, and stuff it with a green feather boa to mimic the Grinch’s fluffy fur. Add a mini Santa hat to the top of the ornament for a finishing touch. You can use Mod Podge to secure everything, and don’t forget to draw on the Grinch’s face with a black paint pen!
Grinch Heart Ornament
Capture the Grinch’s heart growing three sizes with this craft! Paint a wood slice green, then use red heart gems or red paint to create the iconic heart. You can even glue on some green pom poms around the edge for texture. This one is adorable for hanging on a Whoville-themed tree!
Grinch’s Face Vinyl Ornament
If you have a Cricut machine, you can use heat transfer vinyl to create the Grinch’s face. Simply print out the design in Cricut Design Space, use transfer paper to apply the vinyl to the ornament, and you’ve got an instant Grinch look. It’s a super clean and professional result!
Glitter Grinch Ornament
For an extra sparkle take, coat the inside of a clear ornament with mod podge, then sprinkle green glitter inside. Once it dries, draw on the Grinch’s sneaky face using a yellow and black paint pen. These glitter ornaments are perfect for adding a shiny pop to your tree.
Grinch Salt Dough Ornament
Mix up some salt dough and roll it out flat. Use a round cookie cutter to create the ornament shape, then carve out the Grinch’s face using a toothpick. Once baked, paint it green and finish with details like his facial features and a mini Santa hat.
Grinch and Max Duo Ornaments
To make Grinch and Max duo ornaments from recycled light bulbs, start by cleaning and painting the bulbs with green paint for the Grinch and brown for Max. For the Grinch, paint on his iconic mischievous face using black and yellow paint, and add a small Santa hat made of red felt or fabric at the top of the bulb. For Max, add his eyes, nose, and ears with paint, using brown felt for his ears and a small antler made from pipe cleaners. Attach a string or ribbon to the bulb tops to hang the ornaments.
Grinch Christmas Lights Ornament
Paint a clear ornament to look like the Grinch, then glue on mini Christmas lights around the outside of the ornament. It’s a fun nod to the moment in the Grinch movie when he steals all the lights in Whoville!
Grinch Hat Ornament
Make a mini Santa hat out of red felt and cotton balls. Attach it to a clear glass or plastic ornament filled with green glitter or a green feather boa. You can even add a grinchy face on the outside using paint pens.
Grinch Snow Globe Ornament
Fill a clear ornament with white glitter to simulate snow and place a small Grinch figurine inside. You can find tiny Grinch toys online or at the craft store. When you shake the ornament, it’s like having a little Grinch snow globe on your tree!
Mason Jar Lid Grinch Ornament
Upcycle an old mason jar lid by painting it green and adding the Grinch’s face using acrylic paint or a paint pen. Attach a small green pom pom at the top and tie a string through the jar lid’s center so it can hang on your tree.
Paint Swirl Grinch Ornament
Use clear ornaments and mix green paint with a little warm water inside. Swirl it around until the entire inside of the ornament is coated. You can add a few drops of yellow paint for an extra twist or sprinkle some glitter before the paint dries to give it a festive sparkle.
Grinch Quote Ornament
For a fun and sentimental touch, use transfer paper to add a Grinch quote to a plain ornament. Something like “Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store” or “The Grinch’s heart grew three sizes that day.” It’s a nice reminder of the true meaning of Christmas!
These craft ideas are not only easy but so much fun to make, whether you’re doing it solo or making them a family project! They’re the perfect holiday decorations for any Grinch fan looking to add a little green to their tree.
